On 24.06.2021, Microsoft officially unveiled the successor to Windows 10. Windows 11 is visually refreshed, modern and tidy. We show you the innovations and what you can expect.

These are the innovations in detail

Redesign, no more live tiles and centered taskbar

Windows 11 looks strikingly refreshing and tidy. The tiles from Windows 10 have been completely removed and replaced with minimalist icons. Microsoft introduces so-called “snap layouts” with Windows 11, which allow you to divide the screen into predefined areas with different apps. In the new version, refurbished widgets also return. A news feed for news is newly integrated into the start screen.

Since Windows 95, the popular Start button has been located in the bottom left corner. Now this moves to the center as in macOS. The center bar now acts more like a launcher, displaying recently used documents or apps.

Microsoft also gives the icons a new design and has a lot of new animations on board – we think: This looks very fancy!

Integration of apps and Microsoft services

The innovations also include the firm integration of several Microsoft services: For video conferencing and office collaboration, Microsoft Teams will be a firm component of Windows 11. Also to be found will be an Xbox app and the associated Games Pass gaming subscription. Among the new features in Windows 11 is that Microsoft’s Teams software for video conferencing and office collaboration will be directly integrated. The in-house games subscription “Xbox Game Pass” will also be integrated via a new Xbox app.
